Summary

A 200 M3 PILOT STATION WAS BUILT AT SCHELLE (BELGIUM) IN ORDER TO CONFIRM THE POSSIBILITY OF CONSTRUCTION OF LPG AND LNG UNDERGROUND STORAGE PLANTS. THE GROUPE CONGELATION DU LABORATOIRE D'AEROTHERMIQUE DU CNRS (FRANCE) DISPOSED OF A MODEL FOR THE RESOLUTION OF THE STEFAN PROBLEM TO BE USED IN AXISYMETRICAL GEOMETRIES AND WITH VARIABLE CONDITIONS. THE MEASUREMENTS WERE IN CLOSE AGREEMENT WITH THE RESULTS OF THE NUMERICAL MODEL. THESE RESULTS CONCERNED THE FROST LINE EVOLUTION, THE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION IN THE FROZEN CLAY AT EVERY INSTANT AND THE TOTAL SPENT ENERGY.
