Summary

A micro-combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) system was set up at Shanghai Jiaotong University, and comprised a gas engine and generator set, an adsorption chiller and a floor heating system. According to the data acquired in the experiments on summer and winter modes, detailed analyses of the system are presented with respect to the following aspects: the first law of thermodynamics, the second law of thermodynamics and economic thermodynamics. Based on the criteria applied, further comparison between the micro CCHP system and conventional separated energy supply system of heating, cooling and power shows the potential of energy saving while applying this novel micro CCHP. It can be concluded that the adsorption chiller, converting low-grade waste heat energy into useful space cooling power, is an important system that can raise the overall efficiency of the micro CCHP system.
