Thermodynamic models for magnetic materials.

Author(s) : BASSO V., LO BUE M., SASSO C. P., et al.

Summary

In this paper, the authors review the current developments in the field of hysteresis models applied to magnetic materials with magnetocaloric effect. It is discussed how these models may account for the temperature dependence of hysteresis phenomena and how this reflects in a thermodynamic formulation valid for out-of-equilibrium systems. The developed approach is applied to discuss the heat fluxes along the hysteresis loop and to include the role of hysteresis in a refrigeration thermodynamic cycle. As an example the model is employed to compute a non-ideal Carnot cycle performed on a ferromagnetic material.
