Summary

An ammonia-water (NH3-H2O) absorption cooling system is analyzed using the pinch point analysis, to recover maximum internal heat from the streams, thereby increasing the system performance. The system is simulated for generator temperatures between 120 and 150°C, sink temperatures between 25 and 45°C and evaporator temperatures between -10 and 10°C. Based on the maximum internal heat that could be obtained using this approach the conventional cycle is modified without the need for rectification and its performance is compared. The COP of the proposed cycle is found to be 17 to 56% higher than that of a conventional cycle with respect to the operating conditions analyzed.
