Thermodynamics and energetics. 1. From energy to exergy.

Thermodynamique et énergétique. 1. De l'énergie à l'exergie.

Author(s) : BOREL L., FAVRAT D.

Type of monograph: Book

Summary

The aim of this book is to facilitate the understanding and teaching of thermodynamics in engineering. A large part is devoted to the phenomenon of irreversibility and the notion of entropy. A precise mathematical formula for this concept allows the second law of thermodynamics to be applied in a practical and efficient manner. A general theory on exergy is laid down and methods of analysis are developed in order to enable the engineer to deal with the current important issues economy and energy management and saving in a rational manner. This new entirely reviewed and improved edition presents numerous practical applications (air conditioning, refrigeration, turbines, compressors, thermal energy transmitters, cycles, motors, fuel cells, heat pumps, etc.). Excerpt from the table of contents: general points and fundamental principles; open, closed and steady flow systems; overviews of extensive quantities; the thermodynamic properties of matter; mixtures of perfect or semi-perfect gases; mixtures of a gas and a condensable substance; transformations and thermodynamic diagrams; simple examples of application of the first and second laws; energy and exergy (thermomechanical processes; with reactive processes; examples of application); thermodynamic cycles; linear thermodynamics of irreversible phenomena.
