Trafficability in the Arctic Ocean in summer: experience gained from a North Pole voyage.
Author(s) : TUNIK A. L.
Summary
Studies of the ice environment and ship performance during a North Pole voyage aboard the Russian nuclear-powered icebreaker ROSSIA are presented. The route-specific data are directly applicable for ship design and navigation analysis. Trafficability of Arctic icebreakers and icebreaking cargo vessels in the summer Arctic conditions is discussed based on the route-specific ice thickness/concentration probabilities and propulsion of the ROSSIA and other icebreakers in this ice environment.
