Summary

The onions were in polypropylene sacks with a capacity of 25 kg and the garlic was in cardboard boxes of 10 kg. The evaluation of the losses was done on germination, rotting, emptiness, weakness, mechanical damage and the physiological losses of weight. The results, obtained after 6 months of storage demonstrate the effectiveness of the irradiation treatment which was able to inhibit the germination and to reduce the level of total losses as follows: in the irradiated onions 3,88%, without irradiation 19%. In garlic the total losses were significantly higher: 15,63%, without irradiation 43,38%.
