Type of article: Article

Summary

Gives reasons for stating that it is probably correct to say that the use of chemicals in cooling towers and evaporative coolers will not prevent an outbreak of legionella, and the potential for the problem still remains. Presents an alternative non-chemical means of managing the aquatic environment of cooling towers and evaporative coolers in a way that appears to preclude the proliferation of bacteriological contaminants. The method also brings benefits with respect to recurrent and operating costs.
