Summary

IN ORDER TO OBSERVE THE EFFECT OF PARTIAL SUBSTITUTION OF AN OZONE DEPLETING REFRIGERANT BY ONE OF LESS DANGER TO THE ENVIRONMENT, THE AUTHORS CONDUCTED EXPERIMENTS ON A CAREFULLY INSTRUMENTED TEST RIG. THE REFRIGERANTS USED WERE R12 AND R22, PURE AND IN VARIOUS RATIOS. KEEPING CONDENSATE OUTLET TEMPERATURE CONSTANT, IT WAS FOUND THAT COOLING CAPACITY COULD BE INCREASED BY 35% WITH AN INCREASE IN HEAD PRESSURE OF ONLY 30%, IF A 25% BYWEIGHT RATIO OF R22 TO R12 COULD BE SUBSTITUTED FOR PURE R12. THERE IS HOWEVER SOME INCREASE IN ENERGY REQUIRED. D.W.H.
