Uses of hydrocarbon refrigerants.

Author(s) : PEARSON S. F.

Summary

The object of the investigation is to demonstrate ways in which hydrocarbon refrigerants can be used to provide more environmentally friendly refrigeration. Hydrocarbons can be used as pure substances, as hydrocarbon blends and as blends with halocarbon refrigerants. Comparative performance of various hydrocarbon refrigerants and refrigerant mixtures are given. A non-flammable, zero-ozone depletion potential (ODP) blend designed to replace R22 in applications ranging from air conditioning to low temperature refrigeration is described. The blend is designed to be suitable for use with mineral oils in DX systems and with a single addition of ester oils without flushing in flooded systems. COP and condensing temperature are as good as with R22.
