Theoretical and experimental investigation of cyclopropane as refrigerant.

Author(s) : ROGSTAM H. J.

Summary

The paper reports results from a theoretical study and experimental tests with cyclopropane (RC270) as refrigerant. The experimental tests, which include thermodynamical and stability tests, are carried out with R12 as reference. RC270 has a theoretically superior efficiency. The experimental tests verify that the volumetric capacity is about 20% higher for RC270 than for R12. The COP is 13 to 18% higher which is partly explained by a higher compressor isentropic efficiency for RC270. The discharge temperature is high. Experimental tests so far show that the stability matter is not critical, although the choice of materials and lubrication oil do affect the decomposition. The overall results are positive.
