Versatility and energy efficiency of reversible heat pumps illustrated with case studies.

Author(s) : SERRAINO M., CARANO C.

Summary

The common sensibility for the sustainable use of energy sources has strongly increased in the last years, together with a never seen development of the reversible heat pump technology. Today the heat pump technology allows wide operation ranges, plant simplification and high year-round efficiency. Furthermore, it can exploit alternative thermal sources (such as heat produced through solar thermal systems or ground water) and wasted heat (such as exhaust air or heat rejected by commercial refrigeration displays). The article describes the energy saving opportunities of this technology and the relevant application versatility, through some interesting installations equipped with specialized HVAC systems.
