Water solubility and clathrate hydrates in HFC refrigerants and refrigerant blends. Final report.
Author(s) : CAVESTRI R. C., SCHAFER W. R.
Type of monograph: Report
Summary
This study determines the solubility of water in HFC refrigerants R134a, R32, R143a, R125, and R152a and HFC refrigerant blends R410A, R407C, R507A, and R404A from -73 to 71 °C (or within 8.3 °C of critical temperature) in liquid refrigerant and in the presence of refrigerant clathrate hydrate below 16 °C. Water solubility curves were constructed for each refrigerant and blend by measuring water content at 11 °C increments over the entire temperature range. All refrigerants in the presence of 1% w/w water were confirmed to form stable solid clathrate hydrates between 10 and 16 °C, with R32 and blends containing R32 demonstrating stable clathrate hydrates up to 27 °C.
