IN 1982, THE PRICE OF FROZEN TUNA FELL DRAMATICALLY IN THE USA, THAT OF ALBACORE DECREASING BY A PERCENTAGE REACHING 40%. THIS SITUATION RESULTED IN A DECREASE IN FISHING, AN INCREASE IN THE AMOUNTS IN COLD STORES AND THE CLOSING OF PROCESSING PLANT. IMPORTS DECREASED BY 35%. ON THE OTHER HAND, IN JAPAN, THE MARKET WAS REMARKABLY STEADY ; ABOUT 30,000 T WERE DISPATCHED TO COLD STORES, IE ALMOST THE DOUBLE OF 1981 STOCKS. THE WORLD MARKET OF FROZEN SHRIMP WAS CHARACTERISED BY A DECREASE IN PRODUCTION, BY UNEXPECTEDLY HIGH DEMAND AND BY AN INCREASING DEPENDENCY, OF BIG CONSUMING COUNTRIES ON IMPORTS. JAPAN REMAINED THE BIGGEST IMPORTER. IN THE USA THE AMOUNTS CAUGHT DECREASED BY PERCENTAGES REACHING 50%, HENCE IMPORTS, MAINLY FROM MEXICO, ECUADOR AND INDIA. IN EUROPE, THE DEMAND OF FROZEN SHRIMP WAS SMALL IN 1982.
