New R134a alternatives in mobile air conditioning

Two new refrigerant blends are considered as an R134a alternative and "virtually non-flammable".
Two new refrigerant blends, R451A and R451B have been developed at Inha University in Incheon, South Korea. Composed of R1234yf with around 10% R134a, they are considered as an R134a alternative in mobile air-conditioning systems since their GWP is below 150.

The developers say they are “virtually non-flammable”; however they are expected to receive an A2L classification (“mildly flammable”) from ASHRAE. Initially developed for motor manufacturers, the new blends may also be suitable for heat pumps. (Nov 30, 2014)
