A freeze-fracture study designed to clarify the mechanisms of freezing injury due to the freezing-induced close apposition of membranes in cortical parenchyma cells of mulberry.

Type of article: Article
Summary
The formation of aparticulate domains, with accompanying fracture-jump lesions and fine irregularities on the plasma membrane, produced by close apposition of membranes due to freezing, appears to be responsible for freezing injury by induction of the nonphysiological fusion of membranes.
