MOST OF THE 600,000 T/YEAR OF BONELESS BEEF, PACKED IN FIBRE-BOARD CARTONS, TO BE EXPORTED ARE FROZEN IN AUTOMATIC AIR BLAST FREEZERS. HOWEVER THE AUTHORS SHOW THE ADVANTAGE OF AN AUTOMATIC PLATE FREEZER WITH A CAPACITY OF 2,000 TO 4,000 CARTONS/DAY. THE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF SUCH A MACHINE ARE PRESENTED WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO LOADING AND UNLOADING MECHANISMS.
