A2L Refrigerants For Refrigerated Transportation: Review Of Constraints and Opportunities.

Summary
The phase down in Europe of synthetic refrigerants, which have a significant environmental impact, is encouraging professionals and manufacturers in the temperature-controlled transport sector to use alternative fluids that are energy-efficient and more climate-friendly.
A2L fluids, thanks to their thermodynamic properties and low global warming potential, seem to be an interesting alternative solution. However, the level of flammability of these fluids is a constraint that is sometimes not well known by end-users and refrigeration equipment maintenance people, so that a wider deployment on the market should be properly supported.
This article deals with the application constraints of A2L fluids, proposes a method for analysing the risks of using these fluids and the means to be implemented to reduce their criticality.
Topics: Sustainable and cost-effective refrigerant options, Sustainability and reducing climate change in the whole sector, Storage, transportation and logistics, Reducing the climate impact of refrigerants and refrigerant leakage throughout the cold chain
