AFEAS (Alternative Fluorocarbons Environmental Acceptability Study) and PAFT (Programme for Alternative Fluorocarbon Toxicity Testing).

Author(s) : AFEAS

Type of monograph: Booklet

Summary

An important component of the AFEAS program is the global warming and energy efficiency study, in which the total equivalent warming impact from both direct emissions and indirect energy-related contributions has been quantified for CFC alternative products and technologies. Extract of contents AFEAS program: Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer; production and sales of fluorocarbons; atmospheric chlorine: CFCs and alternative fluorocarbons; relative contributions of greenhouse gas emissions to climate forcing; total global warming impact; breakdown products of alternatives; environmental fate of trifluoroacetyl halides; UV-B radiation; glossary of terms. The PAFT program is designed to expedite the development of toxicology data for possible substitute fluorocarbons. Toxicology summaries for R123, R134a, R141b, R124, R125, R32, R225ca and R225cb are studied and the results are given as well as a glossary of terms.
