Summary

The conditions found in retail stores were reproduced in the laboratory in order to observe air temperature distribution inside typical refrigerated display cabinets. The average air temperature observed inside refrigerated display cabinets used in a retail store (loading over boundary line) was 10.8 °C for a 4 °C setting. The air temperature inside the display cabinets was uneven, showing significant differences in the length, the height and the depth. Loading under the boundary line was tested in order to improve the air temperature distribution inside the display cabinet and allowed a decrease of 2.2 °C in the average air temperature without a significant reduction in temperature differences.
