Ammonia: a new fluid for heat pumps.

L'ammoniac : un nouveau fluide frigorigène pour les pompes à chaleur.

Author(s) : HIVET B., DUCRUET C.

Summary

On the basis of simple thermodynamic and regulatory criteria, ammonia and HFC-134a would appear to be the only fluids usable for industrial heat pumps. Ammonia is particularly efficient for high condensing temperatures. Nevertheless, it has only recently become possible to use it, thanks to industrial refrigerating compressors with a maximum operating pressure of 4 megapascals. Test results confirm the efficiency of ammonia. Two applications in the agro-food industry are presented.
