Summary
The author discusses the problem of detecting ammonia leaks in the ambient air. He describes the different types of sensors currently on the market: chemical (with change of colour), electrochemical (with variation of electrical potential), and infrared. Other types in the process of research and development are mentioned. The uses of these sensors vary according to their sensitivity and their precision. The limits of ammonia concentration in the air for personnel safety are indicated. Recommendations are given for the installation of the main types of detectors.
