APPLICATION OF PARTIAL FREEZING TECHNIQUE ON FISHING VESSELS OPERATING IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA.

Author(s) : ZHANG M.

Summary

WHEN VESSELS OPERATE A LONG TIME ALONG THE SHORE, SALT IS GENERALLY USED FOR KEEPING FISH ON BOARD. STORAGE IN ICE WOULD BE BETTER, BUT THERE IS LACK OF ICE. UNDER THESE CONDITIONS IT IS SUGGESTED PARTIALLY TO FREEZE FISH IN LOW TEMPERATURE BRINE. EXPERIMENTS SHOWED THAT FISH STORED IN SUCH A WAY KEPT ITS FRESH CONDITION FOR A LONGER TIME THAN FISH STORED IN ICE AND THAT HANDLING COSTS WERE LOWER.
