Automobile vapour absorption air conditioning system utilizing exhaust waste heat: analysis and design.

Summary

The paper presents an analysis and thermal design of a vapour absorption refrigeration unit using ammonia-water solution as working fluid and powered by an automobile engine exhaust. Premeasurements on a vehicle exhaust waste indicate that by utilizing a properly designed heat exchanger, it is possible to extract enough amount of heat to run the system. The design of the essential components of the system has been undertaken at the optimum conditions for 4.5 kilowatts cooling capacity and a COP of 0.56.
