Summary

A TEST RIG HAS BEEN SET UP TO INCLUDE AN AIR COOLING COIL WHICH CAN BE CHANGED IN EFFECTIVE FACE AREA AND TUBE CONFIGURATION. THIS HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH R12 AND R22 AND MIXTURES OF R12/R13B1 AND R22/R114 IN A FULLY INSTRUMENTED VAPOUR COMPRESSION CIRCUIT. USING A CROSS-COUNTERFLOW OF REFRIGERANT TO AIR, TESTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO INVESTIGATE THE CAPACITY AND COP CHANGES DUE TO THE EVAPORATING TEMPERATURE RANGE OF THE MIXTURES. THE TESTS WERE NOT CONCLUSIVE AS INSUFFICIENT VARIATIONS IN COIL PARAMETERS WERE AVAILABLE. HOWEVER IT APPEARS THAT WITH THE CORRECT CHOICE OF MIXTURE AND COIL SHAPE, ADDITIONAL CAPACITY CAN BE OBTAINED WITH AN INCREASE IN COP. D.W.H.
