CRYOSURGERY HAS BEEN USED IN THE TREATMENT OF VARIOUS DISEASES. UNDERSTANDING THE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF FREEZING IS NECESSARY IN PROMOTING THE THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY OF CRYOSURGERY. THE AUTHOR UNDERTOOK A SERIES OF EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE BIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF FREEZING ON VARIOUS TISSUES, SUCH AS SKIN, MUCOSA, BLOOD VESSELS, NERVES, CARTILAGE AND BONE. THESE WERE OBSERVED CLINICALLY AND HISTOLOGICALLY AFTER FREEZING.
