Capacitance level probes for refrigerants.

Author(s) : YENCHO J. A.

Summary

In ammonia refrigerating plants it is often necessary to maintain a fixed liquid level in a receiver. To do so, there are float indicators, which act mechanically on electrical switches through upward displacement. Capacitance probes using dielectric properties different from refrigerant liquid and vapour can also be used. Concentric electrodes dipped partially into liquid (whose level must be monitored) make it possible to obtain electric signals, through which liquid levels can be adjusted more precisely than with float indicators.
