Carbon dioxide-hydrocarbon mixtures as alternative fluids in refrigeration systems.

Author(s) : HESSE U., ARNEMANN H.

Summary

To determine if mixtures of carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons have lower flammability and pressure levels than pure fluids, the problems of solubility, flammability, availability of properties data, and possible applications were investigated. It was found that the mixtures can be used as alternative fluids. The components are soluble in each other and the mixture properties can easily be determined. The flammability can be reduced, but eliminated only if the carbon-dioxide quantity is extremely high.
