Summary
Experiments were conducted on the chemical storage of winter shoots of Phyllostachys pubescens at 10-15 deg C using solid preservatives. Based on external appearance and nutrient contents after 5 weeks, the optimum combination of the main ingredients of the preservatives was determined as 25% sodium sulphate, 30% sodium bicarbonate, 10% calcium oxide and 40% garlic extract absorbed on to activated carbon. About 20% moisture loss occurred in the first 2 weeks. (See also IIR Bulletin, ref. 99-0271).
