CHILLING INJURY AND WEIGHT LOSS REDUCTION IN INDIVIDUALLY FILM-PACKED GRAPEFRUIT.

Author(s) : SLUTZKY B.

Summary

THE CHILLING INJURY AND WEIGHT LOSS OF GRAPEFRUIT WERE REDUCED AT 279 K (6 DEG C) BY A NEW INDIVIDUAL PACKING METHOD USING HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE. PACKED FRUIT SUSTAIN LESS CHILLING INJURY AND HAVE A MARKED DECREASE IN WEIGHT LOSS. THE PERCENTAGE OF MICROBIAL DETERIORATION, THE QUALITY INDICES OF JUICE AND THE RESPIRATORY ACTIVITY AT THE END OF COLD STORAGE DID NOT SHOW DETERIORATIONS. THE FLAVOUR AND FIRMNESS OF FRUIT WERE BETTER THAN THOSE OF CONTROLS.
