Summary

In order to characterize the combustion behaviour of R152a in mixtures with air, the flammability limits, the minimum ignition energy (ignition by electrical sparks), the autoignition temperature (ignition by glowing surfaces), and the laminar burning velocity of this substance have been determined. These properties of R152a are similar to those of methane. In comparison with the pure R152a, an equimolar mixture of the refrigerant R134a -which itself is not ignitable in mixtures with air -with R152a leads to an increase of the minimum ignition energy and a decrease of the maximum laminar burning velocity. Hence, the combustion properties of the equimolar mixture of R152a and R134a are similar to those of ammonia in mixtures with air.
