Comparison of R407C and R410A with R22 in a 10.5 kilowatt residential central air conditioner.

Summary

The performance of two long-term replacements, R407C (R32-R125-R134a (23-25-52%) and R410A (R32-R125 (50-50%), was compared to R22 in a 10.5 kilowatt residential central air-conditioning unit. The performance of R407C was measured with the same scroll compressor as in the R22 system. The performance evaluation of R410A required change to an appropriately sized scroll compressor. The air conditioner evaporator was also partially optimized to suit the characteristics of R407C and to take advantage of R407C's temperature glide. The relative capacity of R410A ranged from 1.0 to 1.07 compared to R22. Due to insufficient compressor calorimeter data on the two scroll compressors, no attempt was made to correlate the capacity or COP of the test results.
