Compressor wear experiences in an R407C retrofit program.

Author(s) : OGATA S. K., CORR S.

Summary

Fifteen HVAC systems containing 20 compressors which were designed, built, and operated with R22 and alkylbenzene or mineral oil, were retrofitted with R407C polyolester oil. The units were then endurance tested for 2,000 hours to determine the feasibility of this retrofit situation and its impact on compressor reliability and wear. The results of this program generally support the conclusion that R407C and polyolester oil will not cause unacceptable compressor wear or performance degradation when used for retrofit of R22 systems provided certain precautions are observed.
