THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE COMPLETE CONVERSION OPERATION OF THIS COLD STORE FOR TUNA FISH WHERE THE AMMONIA REFRIGERATING SYSTEM WAS REPLACED BY AN R502 INSTALLATION PROVIDING A COLD ROOM TEMPERATURE OF 218 K (-55 DEG C). HOT GAS DEFROSTING AND COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM CONTROL HAVE PROVIDED IMPORTANT ENERGY SAVINGS.
