Summary

ICE-NUCLEATING SEMI-SOLID DROPLETS WERE PREPARED FROM FINE SILVER IODIDE CRYSTALS AND CALCIUM ALGINATE. THE PROCESS OF ICE CRYSTAL GROWTH GERMINATED FROM THE SEMI-SOLID DROPLETS WAS OBSERVED UNDER A CRYOMICROSCOPE. THE DROPLETS SUSPENDED IN THE SOLUTION CONTAINING 10% GLYCEROL OR 11% DMSO GERMINATED ICE CRYSTALS AT ABOUT 265 K (-8 DEG C) ; THOSE IN DISTILLED WATER GERMINATED AT 269 K (-4 DEG C).
