Summary

The author has developed a new negative ion generator by air conditioned coronal discharge in air, and investigated its applicability to food preservation. The results indicated the growth of bacteria and fungi on the surface of strawberry and tuna meat was suppressed by negative ion treatment with the concentration of about 1,000,000 ions/cubic centimeters without exerting a bad influence upon food.
