Summary

The viability of cryoprotected protoplasts was evaluated by different staining methods and estimated immediately after thawing and one day later: survival percentages were 50 and 20% respectively. Survival rates of cryoprotected cells subjected to the same conditions were slightly higher (60 and 35% respectively). Two days after rewarming, cell wall regeneration began as patches on the protoplast surface.
