Summary

THE SHELF LIFE OF NORTHERN SHRIMP IS RELATIVELY SHORT DUE TO THE EFFECT OF MICROBIAL FLORA. IN ORDER TO EXTEND STORAGE LIFE, THE EFFECTS OF GAMMA RADIATION WAS STUDIED ON DIFFERENT BACTERIA ISOLATED FROM SHRIMP. FROZEN SHRIMP WERE TREATED IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THEIR ORGANOLEPTIC PROPERTIES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. IN ACCORDANCE WITH MICROBIAL AND ORGANOLEPTIC STANDARDS, IRRADIATION WITH A DOSE OF 4 KILOGRAYS EXTENDS THE STORAGE LIFE AT 283 K (10 DEG C) OF NORTHERN SHRIMP BY 6 DAYS UNDER TEST CONDITIONS.
