Summary

Mature-green Japanese apricot fruits of 4 cultivars were held in air or a 3-5% O2 + 9-10% CO2 gas stream with or without ethylene removing agents (ERA) for 7 days at 25 deg C. Hakuoukoume fruits were also held under various controlled atmospheres for 10 days at 10 deg C or 8 days at 25 deg C to investigate the influence of storage temperature. Fruits exhibited the climacteric respiratory pattern in air or controlled atmosphere at 25 deg C, irrespective of ERA. However, the onset of the climacteric rise was delayed or its duration prolonged with ERA, which were more effective in controlled atmosphere than in air. The respiration rate of fruits approaching the climacteric peak was reduced in controlled atmosphere, but unaffected by ERA. To store fruits for a period longer than 4 days, it is recommended that they be kept in 4-5% O2 and 8-9% CO2 at 10 deg C. More informations are given.
