Engineering thermodynamics: energy and the environment. Handbook.

Thermodynamique de l'ingénieur : énergétique - environnement. Aide-mémoire.

Author(s) : RPF, MEUNIER F.

Type of monograph: Book, Guide/Handbook

Summary

This book, in the "engineering handbook" series, brings together, in a synthetic and illustrated way, all the definitions, equations and methods required to apply thermodynamics concepts: thermodynamic principles and basic relationships, properties of pure bodies and mixtures and of the thermodynamic cycles (Rankine, Carnot, Hirn, Ericsson, Stirling, Joule, Beau de Rochas, Diesel, Linde, Claude, cogeneration cycles). One chapter deals with the environmental impacts and many data tables on the thermodynamic properties of bodies are brought together in an appendix. Extract from the table of contents: the two thermodynamic principles; basic relationships (Gibbs et Gibbs-Duhem equations; the four state functions; Maxwell relationship; fluid mixtures); pure body properties (rules of Gibbs phases for pure bodies; gases with one constituent; condensed phases; change of phase; thermodynamic properties and diagrams for pure bodies; compression and adiabatic expansion); blend properties (ideal and non-ideal solutions; liquid-vapour balance for blends; liquid-vapour phase diagrams for binary systems); thermodynamic cycles (the thermodynamic cycle concept; vapour or gas driving cycles; combined cycle; mechanical vapour compression or gas compression inverse cycles; expansion cycles; thermal vapour compression refrigeration cycle; polygeneration); combustion; advanced formalism (irreversible process or finite time thermodynamics); environment and sustainable development (the greenhouse effect and its quantification; environmental impact of certain energy processes; life cycle analysis).
