This briefing has been prepared to assist Parties in understanding the multiple issues being addressed at the Open-Ended Working Group (30th Meeting of the OEWG of the parties to the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer, June 2010, Geneva) and their importance in restoring the ozone layer and protecting global climate. Contents: management of ODS banks; TEAP report on HFC alternatives (summary of the report; table of low-GWP alternatives to HCFCs; critique of proposed multi-level definition of GWP); proposals for an HFC amendment; global HCFC-22 production and HFC-23 production, emission and incineration; decision proposal on non-CDM (clean development mechanism) HFC-23 production.
