Type of article: Periodical article, Review

Summary

A QUESTIONNAIRE SENT TO THE USERS OF R113 IN THE SWEDISH ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY INDICATES THAT USE HAS FALLEN FROM 400 TONNES IN 1986 TO ZERO IN 1991 WHEN A NATIONAL BAN WAS IMPOSED. THE USE WAS MAINLY FOR CLEANING PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS AFTER SOLDERING. OF THE ALTERNATIVE CLEANING AGENTS USED, SOME ARE WATER BASED, OTHERS ALCOHOL, TERPENE, PERCHLOROETHYLENE OR TRICHLOROETHANE. NO OTHER CFCS HAVE BEEN USED. IN GENERAL, ALTHOUGH THE CHANGE HAS REQUIRED INVESTMENT, PRODUCTION COSTS AND CLEANING EFFICIENCY HAVE ALTERED LITTLE. THE SWEDISH INDUSTRY HOWEVER IS NOT INVOLVED WITH HIGHLY COMPETITIVE, MASS PRODUCTION, CONSUMER ELECTRONICS. DETAILS OF THE QUESTIONNAIRE AND ANSWERS ARE INCLUDED. D.W. H.
