Evaluation of HC-600a, HFC-134a and CFC-12 mass flow rates through capillary tubes.

Summary

The work presents experimental data for capillary tubes commonly used as expansion devices in household appliances employing R600a, R134a and R12. Capillary tubes of 0.7, 0.8, and 1.0 mm internal diameter with lengths of 3 and 2 m were tested. Condensing pressures of 18, 14, 11, 9 and 7 bar, and subcooling ranging from 14 to 2 deg C were chosen as the operating conditions. Choked conditions prevailed in all runs. The test rig and experimental procedures are described in detail. The experimental data were used to validate a computer model, which was then used in comparative studies of different refrigerant types, tube geometry and operating conditions.
