Retrofitting of a domestic refrigerator with blends of HFC-134a/HC-600a to use mineral oil.
Author(s) : DEVOTTA S., KUMAR V. S., JOSHI R. V., et al.
Summary
A 165-litre Indian domestic refrigerator was retrofitted to use HFC-134a/HC-600a blends with mineral oil as drop-in substitutes to CFC-12. In order to optimize the performance, three compositions of the blend with three different charges each were studied. A rated energy consumption test, a no-load pull-down test and an ice-making test were conducted. It was observed that there was a loss of cooling capacity due to retrofitting. The HFC-134a/HC-600a (96%/4% by weight) blend gave the best results.
