Summary

THE EXAMINATION OF ANISOTROPY AND MICROVISCOSITY PARAMETERS OF MEMBRANES REVEALED THE INCORPORATION OF CRYOPROTECTANT MOLECULES INTO THE LIPID BILAYER. GLYCEROL OR POLYETHYLENE GLYCOLS APPEARED TO AFFECT THERMALLY INDUCED CHANGES IN MEMBRANES UPON COOLING, THUS INDICATING THE INFLUENCE OF THE CRYOPROTECTANTS ON LIPID-LIPID INTERACTIONS. HOWEVER, THE COMPOUNDS DO NOT PREVENT SOME IRREVERSIBLE ALTERATIONS IN THE MEMBRANE STRUCTURE.
