Experimental investigations on condensate flow patterns on enhanced surfaces.

Summary

The purpose of this work is to investigate pure vapour condensation on the outer surface of a single horizontal enhanced tube with particular reference to condensate flow patterns induced by vapour shear stress, surface tension and gravity. Vapour velocity effects of condensation heat transfer are relevant only at vapour Reynolds number greater than 70,000-80,000 giving a 70-80% maximum heat transfer increase at vapour Reynolds numbers of around 300,000. Visual observations of the two-phase flow correlate the above heat transfer enhancement to specific changes in condensate flow patterns with vapour velocity.
