Summary
This study aimed at obtaining the melting behaviour of particulate ice in a column ice tank; the authors performed experiments on the melting of variable amounts of ice, investigated the total melting time, the amount of remaining ice and the convective heat transfer coefficient between ice and water, and found that the temperature of outflow water rises quickly after the remained ice decreases to the point of 20%. The relationships between outlet and inlet water temperatures, the water flow rate, the size of the particles, and the thickness of the ice bed were determined.
