Experimental study on HFC-161 mixture as an alternative refrigerant for R-502 under varying working conditions.

Author(s) : XUAN Y., CHEN G.

Summary

Experimental study on a new ternary mixture of HFC-161, HFC-125, and HFC-143a as an alternative refrigerant for R-502 under varying working conditions is performed on a vapour compression refrigeration unit by the calorimeter method. During the experiments, the condensing temperature ranges from 35 to 43°C and the evaporative temperature ranges from -40 to -20°C. Experimental results prove that in comparison with R-404A, a major alternative refrigerant for R-502, this new alternative refrigerant presents better performance characteristics such as cooling capacity and COP. Under higher evaporative temperature, its discharge temperature is lower. This new refrigerant operates satisfactorily as a promising alternative refrigerant for R-502.
