Summary
Fresh fruits and vegetables are continuously losing water by transpiration after harvest, which will be accelerated at low humidity. Ultrasonic humidifying is an effective way for increasing the humidity in storage area for fruits and vegetables. This research aims to better understand humidification mechanism and characterize the effects of the ultrasonic humidifier parameters on the size distribution of mists. High-speed camera was obtained to determine the optimal distance between diaphragm and water level, and a Laser particle size meter was employed to analyze the size distribution of mists generated by ultrasonic humidifier. The results showed that the median diameter of mist volume (VMD) enlarged with water level increased, while observed the opposite results in the case of the number of ultrasonic atomizers. The application of fan reduced the size of water mist effectively compared to static state. Furthermore, with ventilation velocity increased, the size of water mist decreased. The results of this research will be useful for improving the control precision of temperature and humidity in cold-chain environment.
