Summary

The study investigated how to detect refrigerant inventory in a system air conditioner with multiple indoor units for an outdoor unit. Due to the complexity of the system, it is difficult to detect the refrigerant inventory charged in the system air conditioner compared with that in a single air conditioner. Tests were performed for 6 HP outdoor unit with 3 indoor units in a psychrometric calorimeter. The measured refrigerant inventory ranged from 60 to 140% with 10% interval. A fuzzy algorithm was employed for detecting the refrigerant inventory in the system air conditioner. Measured data were utilized to find out the curve fitting under indoor and outdoor temperature conditions. The functions were determined within the whole range of measured data and rule-based functions were defined for each refrigerant inventory. The programme developed predicted the measured data within a 10% error range.
